Preconvention: Supercharging Skills-Based Health Education: Bringing Missouri’s New Health Standards to Life with HealthSmart
Friday November 13, 2026 9:00am - 11:15am CST
Missouri’s newly adopted health education standards create an exciting opportunity to move beyond simply teaching health content and toward developing the skills students need to make healthy decisions throughout their lives. In this interactive workshop, participants will explore practical, evidence-based strategies for implementing skills-based health education aligned to Missouri’s updated standards.

Educators will experience proven HealthSmart instructional practices that strengthen student engagement while building essential health skills, including decision-making, goal-setting, analyzing influences, accessing valid information, interpersonal communication, self-management, and advocacy. Through model lessons, classroom-ready activities, and collaborative planning opportunities, participants will learn how to transform standards into meaningful learning experiences that promote health literacy and positive behavior outcomes.

Attendees will leave with free skills-based health education resources, implementation tools, and access to national best practices that support high-quality health instruction. In addition, participants will receive complimentary review access to the HealthSmart, providing an opportunity to explore a comprehensive, standards-aligned curriculum designed to support effective health education in Missouri schools.
