Flag Rugby for All
Saturday November 14, 2026 8:00am - 9:00am CST
This session examines how flag rugby creates pathways to athletic participation for all students through intentional collaboration with Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, and Special Education professionals. The flag-first, co-taught model supports neurodivergent learners, integrates with IEP and inclusion goals, and builds genuine leadership skills in general education students. Critically, every athlete has a real high performance pathway including recruitment by USA Rugby, World Rugby, Special Olympics, Paralympics, and Team USA, as well as collegiate and elite programs. Inclusive sport is not the end of the road. It is the beginning.

KEY TAKEAWAYS
1. Participants will leave with 4 hours of USA Rugby continuing education credit and a complete, ready-to-implement one-week flag rugby curriculum aligned to SHAPE America standards for Preschool, Elementary, Middle School, and High School, including adaptive and unified PE versions, so they can bring flag rugby into their gym the very next week without the "Sunday Scaries".
2. Participants will be able to identify and build strategic partnerships with Special Education teachers, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, and nonprofit organizations to design and sustain inclusive adaptive and unified PE programming that meets every student where they are.
3. Participants will be able to create leadership pathways for general education students within inclusive sport programming while understanding the full athlete development continuum from first-time flag rugby players all the way to recruitment by USA Rugby, World Rugby, Special Olympics, Paralympics, and Team USA.
Exhibitor Profile:
Hopkins Rugby Club is a Minneapolis-based 501c3 youth rugby club committed to inclusive sport for every child in every gym and on every field. Play, Progress, Perform: Building PE Skills That Stick
Saturday November 14, 2026 8:00am - 9:00am CST
"Come ready to participate in activities and brainstorm from other professionals' experience. This high-energy session will show you how to intentionally scaffold (build) physical skills and game concepts across the elementary years preparing them to take on middle school. Great PE isn't just about what kids can do with their bodies — it's about who they're becoming in the process.

You'll leave with:
Practical strategies for scaffolding movement skills, game concepts, and tactical thinking across K–5
Tools for differentiating across ability levels while keeping every kid moving and engaged
Ways to weave social emotional learning into your PE program — building resilience, teamwork, self-regulation, and confidence alongside physical skills
A fresh perspective on how to measure the success of your elementary program — and celebrate how far your students have come

Athletic Director Perceptions of Interscholastic Sports in Missouri
Saturday November 14, 2026 1:00pm - 2:00pm CST
While high school athletic administrators play a key role in developing young student-athletes, research has also noted concerns within organized youth sport settings such as increased emphasis on winning, increased costs, athlete mental health, and increased pressure on athletes to specialize. Such evolving concerns have also contributed to negative outcomes associated with growing demands of the athletic administrator position among which include elevated stress, burnout, and turnover rates of high school athletic and activity directors. Examining administrators’ perceptions of concerns within interscholastic sports provides valuable insights into general youth sport issues at large. This project examined the perceptions of Missouri high school athletic and activity directors regarding interscholastic sports, with a focus on their perceptions of current challenges, participation trends, and emerging concerns. Attendees will learn insights about noted athletic director concerns within Missouri interscholastic sports, and session time will be devoted to discussing solutions to noted issues.

The CARE Bears Philosophy: Creating Positive and Mastery-Focused PE and Sport Environments
Saturday November 14, 2026 2:15pm - 3:15pm CST
Ever wonder how you can merge summer camp experience, coaching, and sport and exercise psychology into a teaching/coaching philosophy? One of Missouri State University's 2026 Teaching Excellence Award winners, Dr. Keith McShan, will share how his CARE Bears teaching/coaching philosophy enhances student/player learning and enjoyment. “CARE” stands for Coach-Athlete Relationship and Environments (i.e., caring and creating mastery experiences). The "Care Bears" all together draw inspiration from the television show The Care Bears, focusing on creating fun in sports/the classroom. The CARE Bears teaching/coaching philosophy values quality relationships, positive, fun, and mastery environments. Participants who attend this interactive session will leave with research-backed practices and practical tools that have been shown to engage, motivate, and excite students and athletes in and out of the classroom, helping them excel academically and athletically.
